New Deep Water Port For Patras
Construction is well underway of a new deep water port for Patras. The project will be approximately 1 kilometer south of the existing port which due to the shortage of land restricts is cargo capacity.
The port will be connected by the hub K5 road so making access easier and relieving the traffic congestion in the city.
The new harbour will be able to deal with many different types of vessels including container ships, Ro-Ro ferries and a dedicated passenger terminal. With a total wharf length of just over 1000 meters and accommodating ships with a draft of up to 11 meters the the port will provide modern facilities including a fire station, custom building, control tower passenger terminals and warehouses.
The project is due to be completed in 2010 at a cost of 50,000,000 Euros.
